Carriageworks Nights: NAIDOC

The expansive Eveleigh space is serving up a free night of talented, boundary-pushing Indigenous musicians and storytellers — plus a selection of food and drink items celebrating native Australian ingredients.
Popping up between 6–10pm on Thursday, July 6, Carriageworks Nights: NAIDOC is pulling together an eclectic lineup headlined by pop trailblazer Sycco. The Erub songwriter and performer will hit the stage with hits like ‘Dribble’ and her Flume collaboration ‘Ripple’ for a must-see set.

Steve McCurry: Icons

With more than 100 large-format photographs, ICONS is one of the most complete retrospectives of the career of Steve McCurry, one of the main international figures in the world of photography in the last 40 years.

Bastille Festival
July 13th - 16th
Food, wine, art: if any of these pique your interest, then this four-day French fest is for you. Uniting people in the spirit of Bastille Day, the popular event is back for its tenth edition this winter.
Running from Thursday, July 13–Sunday, July 16, this year’s street fest will serve up everything from ten tonnes of cheese to a 1.4-kilometre wine-tasting walk around the harbour. Expect a big emphasis on vino in general, of course — and food, too. All that wandering and watching is hungry (and thirsty) work, after all, so there’ll be a heap of pop-ups keeping attendees fed and watered.

National Photographic Portrait Prize

Featuring 47 finalists drawn from a pool of almost 2400 entries, the exhibition showcases some of the nation’s best examples of photographic portraiture.
The National Photographic Portrait Prize (NPPP) is on show again at the National Portrait Gallery this winter. Since it was established in 2007, the National Photographic Portrait Prize has been showcasing the unique perspectives of aspiring and professional photographers in Australia in their pursuit to capture the essence of their subjects.

Connection

The Lume’s stunning new multi-sensory exhibition is dedicated to First Nations art and music.
At this Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre gallery, the art gracing its walls tower over patrons, with the space filled with large-scale digital pieces. And Connection will be full thanks to more than 550 works — digitals and originals alike.

Open House Melbourne

Open House Melbourne (OHM) is back, meaning it’s that special time of year when we can have a peek inside some of Melbourne’s most alluring buildings. But permissible prying aside, OHM serves as an important chance to reflect on the past, present and future of design and its role in binding the fabric of our dear city together.
Highlights of the program include Making Home, which will explore the best of Victoria’s social and affordable housing; a first look and tour of the new Holocaust Museum; a film that will celebrate the career of celebrated Melbourne architect Kerstin Thompson; and a tour around 16 modern and historical Melbourne homes like Gantry House and Lippincott House.
